Success Story

Wilson

Owner: Debra

Challenge

Wilson was a two-year-old Pomeranian–Sheltie mix with no previous formal training. He became excited around people and reacted to dogs and other animals with anxiety, yelping, and barking. Debra wanted calmer behavior, more enjoyable walks, and greater comfort in social situations.

Training Focus

Building clearer communication between Wilson and Debra, with an emphasis on calm behavior, enjoyable walks, and helping Wilson navigate social situations. A central part of their work was helping both dog and owner understand what was being asked of them and strengthening their relationship.

Result

Debra describes Wilson as “a changed dog.” She credits Ron’s techniques with helping them communicate more clearly, understand one another better, and build a stronger relationship.

The Story

Wilson's journey

When Debra contacted Building Better Dogs, Wilson was a two-year-old Pomeranian–Sheltie mix who had never received formal training. Meeting people brought out his excitement, while encounters with dogs and other animals could bring anxiety, yelping, and barking. Debra’s goals were simple and meaningful: a calmer companion, pleasurable walks, and better social experiences. Their work together centered on communication—not just helping Wilson understand expectations, but also helping Debra understand how to communicate those expectations to him. That shared understanding became an important part of building a better relationship. In her review, Debra highlighted Ron’s commitment to the dog and his ability to help both ends of the leash. For her, the difference was clear: Wilson was “a changed dog.” Wilson’s story reflects the value of training that supports both the dog and the person who loves him, helping them move forward with greater understanding and connection.
